I'm really proud and happy to be relaunching this anthology book! Before I compliment all the writers, and squee about Brandon's AMAZING cover (his first original cover for the DC2 this year, I think?) I have to announce that we're always looking for short stories to go within this book. If you have a short, four page tale you want to share with the site involving the heroes (or villains!) of the DC2, drop me a PM! Im, your Batman & Robin story was wonderful. I know you've been waiting for it to see the light ever since you handed it in, and I simply adore what you did with such a short space (though yours was the longest story in the issue!). Robin was just great, and skateboarding to the scene? Nice touch! Batman was pretty cool, and him telling Robin to make his way back home the way he came was very douche-ish, but also very funny. Dave! What an interesting tale, full of nods to the DC2, but also weaving a mystery and a half as it went on. Dial "H" for HERO will be bimonthly, appearing every odd issue (barring any unforeseen hiccups) so look out for part two in #3! The Monitor? What's going on there? And that final moment... Brilliant. And would you look at this! Chris Paugh makes a triumphant return to the DC2 with a character that he made his name on. Loved the quiet story you told, and it was a very nice character piece for both Ted and Hank. Steel's always been a favourite of mine, and with him moving off the board to help give aid to other countries, its nice he wasn't blown up, as he rightly could have been considering what looks to be an explosive finale in... What's this? Powers, Inc. Annual #1? I cannot wait, especially considering I'm part of the team behind it And Brandon, that is a beautiful cover. It just is. There aren't any words to describe it apart from beautiful. I hope this means there's going to be a steady trickle of more Herren masterpieces onto the site, but I completely understand if that's not the case. Anyway, thanks for your contributions, and thanks for all the readers who give this book a chance! Remember, we're open to proposals, so drop me a line! Next issue, we've got more Batman and Robin, this time from the amazingly gifted Ellen Fleischer, and a brand new continuing serial launches starring Crimson Avenger, written by the powerhouse that is Don Walsh!

Thank you Charlie for your enthusiasm. This was fun to do.
Brandon, that is one slick looking cover.
I thoroughy enjoyed the Batman and Robin story. We havent had too many stories from Dick's Robin days so it is always a treat to see that. Riding that skateboard home in my opinion is exactly what he should have done. The only thing I had a small problem with is the villain accusing him of being Bruce Wayne. To me the only reason that Jim Gordon has never figured this out is that he just never thought of it. So anytime it is brought up as a possibility and gets shrugged off by other characters especiallly when they are as smart as Gordon it makes me nervous. Once that idea ism out there it seems sooooo obvious. Especially during a time when there is A Robin. Bruce Wayne adopts Grayson and then Robin appears a little later. It's just always seemed odd to me.
David, fantastic job. I have never read DiAL H for Hero but I will be reading ti here now. With the whole fanfic thing in this story I cant help but feel that this kid is Charlie on some other Earth out there somewhere, but I see that he is a little bit of every one.

No love for Martian Manhunter, Chris?

Very nice work here! An amazing cover and some great tails made this a fun read, if not just slightly bumpy in spots. The Batman and Robin story had some great moments, but felt slightly off. I think it may be for the same reason that Chris had mentioned earlier. Charlie's story was intriguing and I can't wait to see where it goes from here. And I LOVE Martian Manhunter, and I'm appalled that Chris doesn't. ;D The bit with Huntress kind of shocked me. It felt more like a Grace moment, not that Huntress isn't a kick butt heroine, herself. ;D DiaL H for Hero was like every fan boys dream come true. I've never read a single issue of it, either, but if this is the basis for the actual series, I'm going to have to go back issue hunting! Fun, fun stuff. And then we have powers inc. You mean they're still around? Nobody tell Plastic Man, he's still a little soar about that whole thing. Chris really does understand the dynamics of these particular heroes and it shines. It's also great to see Chris back, and with Brandon's first DC2 cover in what seems to be quite a while, it made for a rocking return of this series! Hats off to everyone!

With the whole fanfic thing in this story I cant help but feel that this kid is Charlie on some other Earth out there somewhere, but I see that he is a little bit of every one. LOL! Thanks, Chris! Actually, you're not far off. I had originally intended to model the main character after Our Esteemed Editor, but things kinda changed and evolved in the second draft (plus, we all know Charlie is much cooler than Chris King)--- and now he's a little bit of all of us! However, if folks start seeing some peripheral characters that act and sound like members of the DC2 community, that probably won't be a coincidence (one or two have already been mentioned--- let the guessing begin! ... Now, as for the identity of the Monitor, he may not be who you think he is at all...

Fun, fun stuff. Thanks, Brian! Actually, I've updated the Dial H concept significantly--- but the general idea remains the same. Glad you liked it!

I would like to add my voice to the chorus of praise for that cover! It's a wonderful thing to see the beautiful work of Brandon Herren grace our pages again! Here's to a long run of covers for this title!
I fully intend to read this entire issue, but I have to comment on the one (other) piece I have, the Powers Inc. story! It was nice to see one of the original writers of that title give us a snippet and a glimpse at what's going on with some of our favorite, zaniest heroes! Chris captured that perfect blend of humor and action that title has always been famous for, not to mention nailing some key characterizations--- but now for some behind-the-scenes info: the forthcoming Powers, Inc. finale is not a continuation of this story (as the editorial blurb indicates)... Actually, this story is based on an incident only mentioned in passing in the upcoming annual; here, it is done with the trademark sangfroid and panache that only Chris can muster!

I'm thinking Vicki Grant is our own Ellen.

I'm thinking Vicki Grant is our own Ellen. Not quite... the leads are definately their own characters (plus, I wouldn't be comfortable fictionalizing one of us to that degree)--- but I will say that the ladies of our DC2 community will be well-represented. (BTW, conjecture is fun, and I absolutely 100% encourage it--- I just haven't made up my mind yet if I'm going to confirm correct guesses! The mystery is half the fun, isn't it?)

Y'know, when I saw the cover, I thought we had a new artist on board. You need to work more, Brandon, I forgot how to recognize your style! ;D "Dial H for Hero" is definitely the stand-out for this issue. It was easy to see how much it poked fun at ourselves (in a very nice way!), but it makes sense that, in a world of real superheroes, that they'd gain fanboys and girls just like the fictional ones do. And turning the dial device into a texting cellphone is brilliant! The Bard/MM story, while short, looks interesting. I've always liked it when Jason Bard shows up, and I can't wait to see where this goes! The Powers Inc. story was a nice character piece, though the explosion at the beginning and fight at the end seemed tacked on, like an excuse for action in a quiet story. Booster Gold Happy Meals...funny! Unlike the others, however, I didn't like the Batman & Robin story. There were cute moments, yes, but it mostly came off amateurish to me, especially our villain and his motives. Very weak. You'll have to forgive me if I left any stories out, as I read this issue over two days (pressed for time). In future lettercols, you might want to list all the stories and creators at the top, like we've done for some of the other anthology specials, just to refresh our memories...or at least mine.

And turning the dial device into a texting cellphone is brilliant! Thanks for the kind words, Susan! When Charlie first asked me to contribute, I knew I wanted to try my hand at one of my childhood faves, and I wrote a rather straight-forward treatment that--- to be brutally honest--- was uninspired . So I just deleted it and wondered how I was going to tell Charlie I was probably out... But I slept on it, and thought: "If this strip came out today, would it be this boring...?" It was when I wedded the idea to the faux-DC2 concept that I had a hook I could run with! I'm glad folks seem to like the updating, and I look forward to exploring the fanboy (and -girl!) phenomenon in future installments!

Omigosh, it posted! Haha, I had no clue. Lol, well now that I know my issue's up, thanks for reading/commenting on it, folks!
Yes, I know it was a bit.... lenghty, Charlie. Haha, sorry! It just kinda... grew...
AWESOME cover, Brandon! I love it!
Yeah, haha, I wanted to try a different villain-- not Joker, Two-Face, etc... they're ALWAYS used.
And LOL, I wasn't sure about the skateboard scene-- I liked it, but it was like my Pringles scene from NW--- it could go either way, love it or hate it. *shrug*
Anyways, thanks for reading/reviewing.

Read this issue a while ago, but forgot to leave feedback!
Despite myself, I read the Batman story (it was too long, and I don't usually like Batman)--- but I was pleasant surprised! There was something very charming about this piece, especially the take on young Dick. Nicely done, Imari
"Wannabe" was a bit cliched and it seemed like the characterization was off for J'onn (don't know Jason Bard to vouch for him)--- but the set-up is interesting enough to bring me back for the next employment.
The Powers piece was a welcomed visit with some old friends, including the writer! Nice transition to what will be the team's swan song in the forthcoming Powers Inc annual!
As for the cover--- it does my eyes good to see the legendary Killerseamonkey return to the fold with such a beautiful pic! Absolutely loved it!
