I thought the crazy evil scientist stuff was very well done. It reminded me of a news item I read in the UK a few years ago where these clinical trials were conducted and some drug testing volunteers ended up in comas and with brain damage. All they intended to do was get some money to pay off their credit cards. Instead something went wrong and they were left as vegetables. I think one guy survived relatively unharmed, and he was haunted by why he came out of it ok, and his friends didn't. So your treatment of Dagon rang true for me, here, too.
