Hmm. A very interesting read... And lots of foreboding points for the future... What can I say that hasn't been said about Dave's stories and style? Very good, can't wait for whatever you have to throw at us next.

Thanks, Charlie. This will be my last issue of Teen Titans for the foreseeable future, but I know that what Apprentice has planned is going to be spectacular!

Hasn't been one thing of yours that I haven't enjoyed, Idle! This is right up there with the best of them. I, too, can't wait to see what comes next. Thanks for a great read!

Very good issue. The characters are all familiar, and yet it doesnt' feel like a retread of the past. Nice job.

It's a fine line we walk at the DC2 sometimes, to write something familiar enough to engage the reader with their favorite characters, but original enough to entertain them! Thanks for noticing, Chaltab!
Also, I want to post a PM I received from a very astute reader; he raises a valid concern that I think deserves to be addressed:
What does everybody else think?
And, BTW, whenever a writer does something you don't like, don't be afraid to call him or her on it! This is the DC2, and these are your characters! Tell us the direction you want us to take them in!

Oh that's a clever thing to say... Call us on any differences you don't like... But do it in a public forum! (Some... Uh... Some of the writers can get snipey behind closed doors.)
Also, don't PM the writer, make all your comments on the books in the Letters pages! Share your voice with the masses!

Everyone is entitled to their own opinion, and frankly, I'd like to know what our readers honestly think of our work, good or bad. As should every writer.

Was that a dig at me? I wasn't saying that they shouldn't voice their opinions! It's basically the price of reading the books! If we put up or stories, our stories that we've taken the time and effort to write, we all want feedback, negative and or positive.

Post by Admin on Dec 30, 2005 16:32:30 GMT -5
It wasn't a dig. And, essentially, you just said the same thing I did, right?

And no offense, but you were saying that I wasn't saying exactly the same thing as you were saying, and was in fact saying something different from what you were saying, and I was saying something completely different. I was saying the same thing as you were saying but you didn't take what I was saying as what you were saying.
Best.

ok, now I'm confused. What exactly are you saying?

We were saying the same thing, but I think he took it the opposite way, leading to me use humour to point it out. If you follow the sentences carefully ( really carefully ) you'll see what I summed up in one sentence can be strung out for longer.

excuse him he is ill right now. i thought it was great D i didnt really think he became nightwing "too fast" but i thought that perhaps there whould have been time in between for him to make such a crucial decision. or AT LEAST have him in some crude costume thrown together at a whim. it seemed like he thought it and then BAM there it was. but maybe i just read it wrong. I was quite happy to see that there was a reference to the fact that speedy spent the last few years coked out of his mind.

I PM'd the writer because I didn't want to spoil it for anyone who hasn't read the story, but read the letters page.

Yeah, the PM basically explained my opinions about the story. I just didn't want to spoil anything.
THat's exactly my opinion in the PM. I can imagine that changing identities is a big deal for a superhero. Especially considering that today, a lot of people still think Dick Grayson is Robin, even though in the comics, he hasn't been Robin for over twenty years!
Something like that should be saved for a special occasion, like an issue or a year anniversary.
It's understandable why Dick would be seriously considering changing his identity. However, he's been Robin for years. It's the only identity he knows. If I had written it, I would've had Robin notice the Nightwings and think 'Hmmm...' and perhaps reveal at the end he took one of the costumes with him, because if he does finally decide to become Nightwing, he'll have it handy. If he decides to stay Robin for a little while longer, he'll have a nice souvenir.
I had the perfect set-up idea: An issue set at New Year's Eve. New Year's is a time when people start over and resolve to change things about themselves. Robin gives a speech in that vein about himself to his fellow Titans, and then reveals his new identity. Make it grand.

Although I agree that Dick's transformation seemed a bit rushed, I think this issue was excellent on a great many levels. Characters were solid and there was a nice wrap up with still some wondeful threads out there to be grabbed. Excellent job.

I just started reading Teen Titans last night and didn't stop reading until I had gone through all 3 issues. These were excellent and I'm loving the characterization. I thought that the way you introduced Nightwing was really a good idea and will help, continuity wise, with the ongoing series. Good work on this series Idlewilder.

I thought that we'd see Robin's change into Nightwing in Nightwing, but I guess this allows the writer of said book to show us some magic concerning why he's choosing to stay as this man...

I enjoyed it... The transformation into NW seemed to flow nicely with the mythology you've built here between Azarath & the Church of Blood... makes me wonder where 'Flamebird' might come from later on down the line... It was well written and excellently paced. I was surprised by the fact that it already addressed Roy's addiction. I wasn't sure if that was coming up or would be ignored. Also, how far in the future does this book take place in comparison to the Flash? Since Wally over there has yet to become KF... just curious! Anyway, interested to see where the new writer takes us! But now that you're free David... would you get to work on JSA so Ryu doesn't have an aneurysm. Just kidding... sort of.

Great issue. Best yet. Liked all sorts of stuff about it: the cover, Dick's becoming Nightwing (I didn't think it was rushed seeing as how he was thinking about dumping the old costume two issues ago) and Kid Flash's comment about Dick's costume, the Titans' dreams (although I'm not whether putting all three together consecutively was a good idea. Anyway, liked the way you tied in Starfire's brother's blood to Brother Blood and glad to see Roy's addiction being shown and glad to read on the letters page that it's not finished with - I was afraid that stage of his life, with its dramatic possibilities, had just been jumped completely over).
On the picky side, I was surprised Sister Psychosis didn't make a reappearance and Sister Scorch has to be one of the worst names I've come across (was this some obscure reference to the Ventriloquist's dummy Scorch the Dragon?). Also, typographically, "You’re friends" should have been "Your friends", "high-pitched whining sounded" should have been "high-pitched whining sound", "streaked passed" should have been "streaked past", "but he did make it" should presumably have been "but he didn't make it" and "staring out the hand" should have been "staring at the hand".

Glad you enjoyed it! I went out on a limb here with a slightly tweaked version of Raven's origin, and a completely new set-up for Nightwing's origin (dispensing with his Kryptonian-themed name for what I felt was a more logical Azarathian-themed one--- logical, at least, in the contect of this story). I would like to say, however, if this story had not been planned prior to her accepting the job as Nightwing writer, I probably would have left the origin to Dragonbat...

It's making me miss Garth. I enjoy your way writing Dick, Roy and the relationship between them. You do a very good Raven as well. I can wait for Donna and Kory to be explored more.
