'Kana Tevoro' was a short horror story I wrote years ago that I always had a soft spot for. I intended for this revision of the original to appear in this years' Halloween special, but unfortunately we weren't able to get one out for 2018! Maybe we'll see one next year, and I am most definitely pushing for a Christmas special this December.
Anyway, it's an interlude in the ongoing Hellblazer series, which would have originally appeared after our second arc, but as our first one ended and there's a bit of breathing room, I thought it would slot in nicely as our fourth issue. I have plans for the next arc-- and all the arcs after, to be honest-- and hopefully we'll be able to get the book back on an ongoing schedule next year. In the interim, it'll be out sporadically, whenever I get the urge to write horrible things happening to not-so horrible people...!

I really enjoyed this. There's something to be said for effective one-and-done shorta, which are fairly hard to pull off (or maybe that's just me), but that's what this one. There's a slow burn creepiness to the whole thing that really gets under your skin, and shifting the perspective away from John works well to emphasize the sense of dread of isolation.
Great stuff, Charlie. Looking forward to what comes next.

It's odd, but I really enjoy collaborating with myself-- as in, revisiting something I wrote years ago-- and this is one of those few stories I've had the opportunity to do that with. It's a bit hokey, it's a bit cliched, but I enjoyed writing this back in the day, and I enjoyed bringing it into the DC2 even more. Some of my favourite Hellblazer stories were when John was on the sidelines... " Shoot" is a big one, and an iconic story to boot, but there's also stuff that littered Azzarello's underrated run, like " Freezes Over", or even Neil Gaiman's " Hold Me", where John stumbles into an occult situation through no fault of his own. I fully intend to return to Hellblazer in the new year (though I forget to include it in the !!NEW YEARS DASH!! posters-- d'oh!) but I want to take my time with this entire series, so in the interim there may be space for these more insular, shorter hits of horror as we move forward. I know we've mentioned how we're approaching our books a bit differently on this side of the universe-- seasons rather than series, as it were-- and this book has its first season mapped out rather well. It all culminates in the season's arc of "The Balance" being addressed, but that's a ways off.
