I was quite disappointed with this issue. It felt like the story was meandering instead of pushing forward comfortably. Don't get me wrong, the story was well written, but it felt to me like it wasn't going anywhere for a while, kind of repeating the same flaws I found with your last issue of Teen Titans, Jay. It's the same thing again and again, rinse-and-repeat, before you have your cliffhanger. I've read better from you, so it was disappointing, like I said.
The reveal of the villain was a surprise (I vaguely remember early Suicide Squad issues) but for the uninitiated, maybe somewhat underwhelming? And the fact that he was reading all these books with Machiavelli and Caligula just screamed cliché to me, so it was hard for me to take it as seriously as I think you would want the reader to. It just seemed too easy, like you were going for a response and went for the obvious angle just to ensure it, but because of that you overshot your mark and turned it into a joke.
I'm hoping the story picks up with next issue, as I want some movement (I know I'm guilty of the same kind of problem, Kevin pointed it out with DC2 Nemesis #5) and see our "heroes" stop cowering in the dark.

The heroes weren't cowering in the dark, they were doing detective work on who their enemy was.
And the battle was meant to highlight Parademon's thought processes. Sorry that didn't work for you.

As always this was solid. I really liked the Parademon battle actually. The detective side of the characters coming out was a nice change of pace as well.
There did feel like something was a bit off here, but I honestly can't place my finger on it. Still, I enjoyed it very much! Nice job on story and cover.
