I wanted to take a moment to thank John Ostrander, Kim Yale, and everyone else who’s work on the original Suicide Squad, provided me with the inspiration and desire to tell this story. I could go on and about that series for days. That book is still one of my all time favorites. I turn into such a fanboy when I talk about it so I will stop. I will say if you taken the time to read any or all of this story and are curious about the source material, please check it out. It isn’t out in TPB’s but it should. Find it online or your local comic shop, just find it. You will treat yourself to a book that still holds up today as one of the best post crisis books period! Also, thanks must go out the creators of all the cool DC characters I borrowed in this story.
Issue three marked the end of the original mini-series that I proposed to David way back in October. It started out being a 6 parter that I squeezed into 3 + the zero issue. It clocks in at 64 pages and over 28,000 words. Maybe I should have stretched it out to 6 parts but somewhere in the plotting process I came up with so many ideas that sprang from this story David said, lets just roll this out as an ongoing. So, I wanted to get to the rest of the good stuff planed and it ran long. I also should take time to thank my wife for putting up with these crazy characters living in our house. They have taken on a life of their own. There were times at dinner, watching TV, or in the car I would ask her stuff like, “How does this sound? Do you think Killer Frost sounds cool here? Does Rick Flagg yell too much? Is Enchantress too brutal here?” She edited everything and helped every bit of the way. She put up with a lot! Thanks also to the wonderful covers by Jim, Doc, and Kevin who have completed each issue with awesome covers! Thanks to everyone who has read this little “niche book” as Charlie calls it, so far. I appreciate it. I have done my best to make this as fun to read, as it has been to write.
From here the series shifts focus for the rest of the year. Issues 4-6 tell a tight little tale called All Consuming Fire. It’s a more personal tale where everyone wants answers about something. It’s a shorter fast paced story that is something completely different then this past one. Issues 4-6 also include a back-up tale featuring Black Orchid on a journey across the DC2 universe. Issue 7 tells the real story of Mark Shaw, Manhunter. Issue 8 is the IXE crossover. Issue 9 is a spotlight tale on someone I can’t mention yet. Then, in issue 2 of the Rogues Gallery title that debuts after IXE, it’s Deadshot vs. Deathstroke that leads into Suicide Squad issue 10 and the 4 part storyline called ‘ The Hit Between the Eyes’. Eve Eden’s actions in issue 2 have been leading up to this point and the answer to whom or what the TEN are is revealed here.
If you haven’t read this book yet because you think you know what it’s about, check it out issue 4 because you might be surprised. If you have read it and think you know where things are going, you might be surprised as well.
Thanks for your time,
John
