I very much enjoyed this issue!
I've not been a fan of the character before, but the writer here has depicted a very sympathetic and relatable hero, giving us not only the omniscient perspective, but a peek into Buddy Baker's mind as well (I especially liked his musings about the animals who's powers he borrows). Dan's Anaimal Man has a little bit of the Spider-Man ethos about him--- with great power comes great responsibility--- but at the same time, he's a husband and father (Loved the last scene! Nice surprise).
No long, belabored (and familiar) origin story here--- beautifully and succinctly dealt with in a sentence!--- just a nice Animal Man adventure.
The choice of villain was very appropriate--- has Animal Man found an archenemy?
And I just have to add that the cover is awesome! ArtTeach came in last-minute and delivered a terrific piece! Look carefully at what the lions are "playing" with!
Great job, all around!

I had a lot of fun getting inside of Buddy's head (that's my favorite part of writing just about any character, but the more I wrote of this, the more interesting he became to me than other characters I've written), and I feel that this was the best that I've written so far. I still want to work on length, this was a little short just like most of my stories, and I could have extended some of the scenes, but I'm satisfied with what came out.
I would love to come back to Animal Man, and I loved writing the fight with the villain so maybe I'll write a story with these two in the future. It took me a while to find a good match for Buddy. I made a list of villains that could have worked, but I think the one that I finally decided on worked perfectly (though using Gorilla Grodd could have been pretty fun).
I really wanted to show the everyman quality that Buddy possesses, I'm glad that I was able to do it well enough for you, and hopefully others, to notice.
And that cover...that was last minute? Excellent work Artteach, sorry I didn't give you more time to work on it by turning it in a few days later than expected, but you really put together a good looking cover.

Most of what I know of Animal Man is secondhand, so aside from powers and the fact that Grant Morrison worked on him (nice nod in the story, by the way!), I had no idea what to expect.
This was a pleasant surprise! Not just in the ending (I figured he was talking to his wife) but in the way his powers worked (tasting the sweat on your legs? YUCK!). If you ever do another Animal Man story, I'll be sure to read it!

This was a blast! Great job with Buddy. One of my favorite characters and one of the few that Morrison did right (IMO), and you did him justice!
You're choice for villian was actually a jaw dropper for me. It wasn't what I was expecting at all. And the way he went down, brilliant! You really did your research for this and it showed. Excellent job.

All I can say is that this was a fun read! And it's all that I need to say because other than GM (who you made a cool nod to, I had a fan boy tickle) most writers use Animal Man in a bland, cameo appearence, and you made him cool.
