That was very good. How about you have one where Billy works with Superman, and another when he meets a member of the JSA?

That was awesome! What a great bunch of villains and the background of the story was very well put together. I commend you! But where was the cover?

The cover is a bit late, but will be up soon!
Ryu! We do have the ability to come up with some ideas! If you want to see a book to do with an idea you think everyone will like, pitch it!
Superman and Captain Marvel team up in a story entitled MEN OF THUDER AND STEEL*! and if you read the book closely, you'll see he worked regularly with the JSA, so expect some guest appearances in the JSA book!
(*working title, something along those lines, anyway)

The cover will be out today--- and it will defiantely be worth the wait! Thanks for the compliments, fellas! The trap with doing a Captain Marvel story is that people expect to see his two main enemies, Dr. Sivana and Black Adam--- and you have to, because they are integral to the character's history, but I wanted to use some villains that the reader might not expect. Luckily, Cap has some colorful enemies, most of whom the reader will recognize, and that will make the story original and fun. So--- enter my own version of the Golden Age Monster Society of Evil!

Another wow! Excellent job, Idle. Not being a huge fan of CM, I have to say that the history lesson was appreciated and very enjoyable. Can't wait to read the second half of this. Go Billy!!!

I must say, of all the CM origin stories I've read, either in comics or in fanfics, this is the absolute best. I can't wait for next issue, and I think this just grabs Best Issue of the Week for me. Great job!

As a man who sports a "Big Red Cheese" tattoo, this story made me proud to be a Cap fan. I really like how you handled the villians, something very easy to get wrong, and this was done quite well. I also have to say that I feel honored you used that peice for the cover, and the title heads are PERFECT!! Great job all around!!! (Now bring in Mr. Atom!!! )

Thanks, folks!
Much like Jim, I'm sure, I've been a fan of Cap since the days of the old Shazam!/Isis Saturday morning Power Hour (though no tattoo--- but if I were to get one, I'd get the thunderbolt on my chest!), and I just want all the world to love this character (well, and Hawkman, too).
It is a slightly tweaked version of the Shazam mythos (though utterly faithful in spirit), and owes as much (if not more) to Beck and Binder as to Ordway and Johns.
And what can I say about the cover...? Jim's image is absolutely bold and magnificent, Scott's colors are, as always the perfect compliment, and Brandon's finishes were a touch of retro genius! I've been blown away by DC2 covers before, and just when I think we can't possibly top the last one...! Wow...

SCORE!!! (Man, I love the Monster Society. That's exactly, to me, the funnest encapsulation of the comic-based tradion of villians...I mean, he has my favorite roster of villains with all the big leaguers, of course, like Mr. Mind, IBAC, Black Atom, Dr. Sivana, Capt. Nazi...but my heart belongs to the way more out-there, bizarre lesser-knowns, like Mr. Who, Oom, Oggar, Ramulus...they are just so awesome!!)
Just for you...Scott should be posting up a pic I did pretty soon...of a certain indestructible nuclear-powered homicidal robot....

I love the Captain Marvel family, so this was great. My only bone of contension, is that it went waaaaay too fast. You put like four comic books in one. I would've been happy wallowing in the details of Captain Marvel and Black Adam's first fight.
I do like your idea of two Captain Marvels (for two different times), that is brilliant. Can't wait for #2!

When I first heard how we'd have 2 CMs (one in Golden Age and the other Modern) I thought it was a darn clever idea. Seeing it in practice (and yes, you SHOULD show us the first CM/BA fight!) shows just how well that idea works. Billy's inherent innocence now doesn't seem hokey, it's just a product of his times. As one who never really got into Captain Marvel, I really enjoyed seing his DC2 debut! BTW that was probably the BEST cover we've ever had! Spot-on perfect!

I just have to share this. I was going home last night and a huge bolt of lightning lit up the sky pretty close to me. "Holey Moley" I exclaimed. I laughed the whole rest of the way home!

Great work, David! I have to agree with everyone else and say that this story was top notch! I really enjoyed how you split the origin up for the two Captains and also think this was a great way to make Billy Batson a more believable character. I've never been a huge fan of Captain Marvel, but have supported the character over the years. I've mostly followed him through the specials and some trades in the Ordway/Alex Ross era of work so I know the main cast, but honestly am not entirely familiar with his Rogues. I think one reason for this has been partly due to a failing of DC to give the guy proper respect over the years. I mean, at one point this guy outsold Superman comics right?
Anyway, this story puts the character perfectly into perspective for a fan from the modern era and sets the stage for many interesting tales to come. In one short story I think you have accomplished what DC has lacked in for so many years. I can't wait to read the next one!

I just wanted to say that I was seriously impressed by this issue and I can't wait to read the next. The idea for two CM's was great like others have said, and although I've only recently become a Captain Marvel fan, I think I can say that you have the characters personalities and traits perfect. Marvelous (corny but hey, it's all I could think of) Job!!

Just as I said with Vigalante in the NO thread I don't know much about CM (though I am sure more than someone who reads no comics and more than I do about Vigalante),but I will probably now go back and read up on the DCU version too! Seriously DC should be supporting this sight!

I have to say I really enjoyed this issue. This is the building block of the DC2 universe, and it was well written to the point that it was easy to love Cap the way he should be loved. Good job, can't wait for the next one.

This is how Captain Marvel should be done! I've always loved the character and always felt he's gotten the shaft from DC (perhaps because he wasn't their original idea?) but this puts him right where he should be. This is a guy who really could go toe-to-toe with Superman yet he's always been relegated to second-stringer. And I love the Monster Society! Tremendous start, and I hope Cap plays a big role in the DC2. And the cover is FANTASTIC!!! My favorite so far!

I finally had a chance to read this and I loved it!
I've never read a Captain Marvel story before and this one made me want to go pick up some back issues! As always, David hit the ball out of the park! I think you were born to write golden age stories.
Onto issue #2!
