Hey everybody. My name is Jim. Many moons ago, when this website was first standing on it's wobbly Bambi-like legs, I drew a few little covers and what-not here and there. Then, I got married, moved to the 'City By The Bay", and lost touch with the world. Well, I am back, hopefully for good.
By the way, I hope everybody out there knows where my headline is from. If not, shame on you...you need to watch more movies. ;D
I love Golden Age DC, anything to do with Supervillians, Geoff Johns, and I hate the new Martian MAnhunter costume even though everybody else loves it. That's all there is to that.

My old partner-in-arms! It's so good to see you back again! I miss you man... At least we always run into each other at Comic-Con... but people are gonna start talking...
Oh, and I too hate the Martian Manhunter redesign with a passion. It gives me dry heaves... kind of like Superman Red/Blue did.

The anti-MM costume is a growing front. I know Roy and I have discussed how we hate having to use it ourselves, that's for sure.

I have actually been sketching ideas for a new MM costume for a long time now...(sorry Zoom, no bandannna or baggy pants...but I will keep an open mind  ) I say we decide right here to come up with new ideas...let's save J'onn from being a fashion victim!!! |

Does he need a "new" one? Personally, I like his old costume. It wasn't much, but really, for a guy that shapechanges and elongates his body into all sorts of lengths and shsapes, I think a simple harness and trunks almost makes sense. If a guy who flies at unbelieveable speeds in the high atmosphere, but is just a normal human (Hawkman), why can't a massively superpowered alien with no real human maturation run around in his harness and trunks? It works.
Just my thoughts.

Personally, I LOVE the original MM look. So many people used to complain about his costume, calling it "hokey" and "cheezy", but to me it was so iconic, so perfect for the character. I remember a Keith Giffen era Justice League annual where he was possesed by the Grey Man, and I remember thinking that the costume was pretty much the most boiled-down-classic superhero look...and the ways that Adam Hughes or Kevin McGuire drew him...I loved him. (The oreo cookie fetish was another aspect I am a huge fan of...)

I think Borizes Martian Manhunter design is pretty cool...  Don't get me wrong, I dig the traditional one but it was in that competition and as I recall it lost. |

It may have lost before, but that was before my time, so all I know is, I find the design clunky and would choose not to vote for it now. But you'll also notice that I've not changed it in League.

...the funny thing is, I have probably drawn at least a dozen costume sketches, but I can never get his essence the way I think it should be.
But...he's a shape shifter, so he could dress any damn way he pleases....
go figure.
