I have a couple of DC/Nightwing stories I simply don't have time to work on--anyone want to take a look as to maybe collaborating or having a go at them?
I almost never write with someone--haven't done so in years, in fact, but it might be fun.

I usually get half way into my stories and then stop, so maybe you could write half and I could finish it off, but Nightwing is not Nightwing yet. He's off at college with the teen titans I think.

The change to Nightwing is going to happen pretty quickly as I understand it so it's definately not premature to be planning stories. I think the first person up for Nightwing is Dragonbat so if you want to touch base with her to see what's going on and what she has planned that would probably be a good idea. There also seems to be a few Nightwing fans on site now so that should make for a good collaborative environment.

hey Stephen..give me a bang on the pipes off line and I'll send you what I have that you're welcome to have a stab at.
NW is at college? I'm so out of the loop...I thought that only lasted about twenty minutes--he went, hooked up with Lori Elton, hated school, Robin didn;t fit in and felt really awkward (I have some of those old comics) and finally dropped out after like one semester after which he was a bit of a lost soul for a while. I assume Bruce was not well pleased.

NW will launch in January, from what I've been told. I'm going to be looking pretty closely at what Batman and TT set up by way of a history/backstory. Right now, I'm in the brainstorming phase.

If you'd like to bat a few ideas around, let me know. I know almost nothing about recent stuff, but have a fairly good recollection of the 70's and what happened to poor old Dick back then.

Good to know. My stories are typically character-driven... not a bad thing, at all... but I need to work on my villains a bit more...

Same with me. I usually spend most of the story trying to get into the characters--their motivations and all of that... and the incredibly dysfunctional relationship between the various Bat characters--you have to love that part of them! Let's face it, much as these guys are fun, there's something seriously warped about dressing up like a six foot tall avenging bat and then taking in an eight year old to watch your back as you let your obsession have full rein.
What's not to love, right?

True, true. Up to now, my fics have been reactive. I read something I have a problem with, and try to fix it. Proactive... this is going to be a whole new ballgame...

This is a new football for me, as well. I usually just play the 'what if' game for a story--you know--"What if Robin and Supergirl had been friends when they were teenagers?" "What if Nightwing/Dick Grayson had a stalker?" "What if Dick Grayson was contacted by his blood relatives?"..and the like.
In all honesty, I don;t read comics now, haven't in a number of years and just go by what was happening decades ago. Like I said, in current canon, I'm clueless but the current books (what little I know about them) seem not great and I find I'm less and less tolerant of books taking a year to move a plot five inches--too impatient, I suppose.

I thought that was you Beth! Totally understand where you're coming from. In my case, I've basically been trying to turn lemons into lemonade...

Ah shucks, Es--I was half thinking about a sequel to that thing but got caught up in some other stuff instead. So--spill--what are you thinking about for your first foray here?
And I was serious about collaborating on some unfinished fics--you want to jump in on one or two?

First thing I'm going to do is try to end the angsting and moaning phase as quickly as possible. Ideally in issue #0, if not by the end of the first arc. Now, if you have any fics involving heroes and villains, I would be very interested. I've been working on action sequences, and think I can kinda do them... thankfully there's one fantastic capoeira site (www.capoeirasj.com) that actually shows you the individual moves... and it's been established that NW's fighting style leans heavily toward that discipline. The majority of my work, though, leans toward character development. That's fine for some story lines. The last thing I want is 60s style 'Biff' 'Bam' 'Wham-o'... but let's face it, sooner or later, NW is going to have to fight somebody besides Bruce. And someone a little more interesting than Hapless Thug #4.
By all means, if you want to collaborate I'd love to see your WIP's. I've never worked with a partner before, so please say something if I breach ettiquette. Odds are, it's ignorance, not arrogance.
Cheers!

Cool beans.
I have a couple of things that could use some butching up--I really suck at the action stuff. All unfinished--one has BH officer Dick Grayson as the victim of identity theft, one has him and the Titans dealing with tabloid rumors, one has him--as young Dick still in the circus--having a play date with a townie...a few more, some involve Garth (non slash, not to worry).
And I don;t collaborate either--well, I did once about four years ago and it was okay but then the other person ended up never writing again...and we were friends, too...odd. She had some serious family problems, though. Her mother had alzheimers, poor thing.
Take a look and have a good if anything strikes your fancy. If not, no harm done. And don;t worry about my toes being stepped on--I'm easy.
Y'see, I don;t take fanfic as life and death. It's a hobby to me (let the batbricks fly.....!). I like to write and we all want our things to turn out well, but this is an escape for me. It's fun. We all have real things in our lives, serious things--this is where I go to play. I figure that I'll probaly like what happens to the fics and if I don;t, hell--I can always put my own spin on them. No biggie.
Damn, Getting too heavy here! Send me our e-mail address and I'll send you the WIP's, or some of them.

okay...see if any of it/them work for you and let me know. I also have some research about stalking I saved, if you want that, too.

Simon,
I'd be happy to take a look and see what we could come up with. I have a few ideas myself...
Let me know if you are still looking!
