And we're back! This is a corker of an issue and I can't wait to get into more detail with my feedback.
That said, please take a moment and let us know what YOU thought of this issue!

This issue was a massive acceleration of events, and all the better for it. The mystery of Jerry White's parentage, the reveal of the villain seemingly behind it all, and that fight in the Fortress... this was non-stop! And again, I reiterate how much I'm enjoying the overall vintage and vibe of this run, as we're seeing characters from the 90s era take centre stage, with their exploits and adventures re-imagined through a DC2 lens. That's damn cool. That cliffhanger was tense as all hell, and Xelek's evolution is a very interesting tweak to the established mythos. It would have been easy to have a "street" Kelex, but introducing a new twist on a familiar theme has been better by miles. Excited to see where #6 takes us... I have no idea if we're near the conclusion to your opening arc, and I don't know how you could wrap things up in one issue!

This was my favorite issue so far. Everything is finally linking up in an exciting way. I will admit that my knowledge of 90s Superman is mostly from random issues given to me by my cousins so a lot of this is new to me. But you are definitely making it interesting Eric. So ready for the next part.

Another good issue in this run of Superman! Like Charlie, I'm really enjoying the "vintage" of this series. I also don't have a lot of past knowledge of the 90s Superman, but this reminds of really good S:TAS and Justice League episodes. Larger-than-life, heart-felt, and well-crafted.
I like Xa Du in particular, as the villain, good choice. DC2 basically introduced me to Xa Du, and he's a great villain-- scary, like a reverse Superman, all twisted Kryptonian science, with Leopard to do the punching and kicking! That said, I'm not a big fan of the "feminine" Xelek. Personally, it feels like she's mimicking stereotypes from a dated sitcom about what "the woman" should act like. Maybe that's intentional. It doesn't jive, for me, with the otherwise really warming tone of the series. I like the flirty and smart exchanges beween Lois and Clark, and I love the introductory scenes with Ma and Pa Kent, for example. They're traditional but open, wholesome, but with great insight into this unique situation they're in.
Overall, another entertaining issue! I can't wait to see the next issue.

I agree with oblique, Xelek doesn't feel kryptonian enough for me. For me, Superman's Fortress is his connection to Krypton. Lois and his supporting cast should be his link to humanity. Xelex feels a little to "golden girls" for me." That being said though, I really like the story. I especially like the little vignettes that begin the story. I can't help but feel that somewhere down the line that these two separate but connected themes are going to come crashing together. I too like Dr. Xa Du. I always thought that Superman needed a "scary" villian. Someone who is just evil incarnate. Someone that can really shake Superman down to his core. I also like the Clark parts. Superman has one of the strongest supporting casts in comics and it's nice to read a stories where they share the pages with the \S/. Looking forward to what comes next!

…I too like Dr. Xa Du. I always thought that Superman needed a "scary" villian. Someone who is just evil incarnate. Someone that can really shake Superman down to his core. Xa Du has been a personal favourite of mine since you first introduced him in your Action Comics run that lasted from #20 until #40! There was so much great, seminal DC2 content that took place across those years, and you were at the forefront of that both with the art and words produced. It was my pleasure to be part of the editorial team on that book for a time! There’s just something about a Kryptonian Hannibal Lecter that is absolutely horrible to think about, someone who looks down on “lower lifeforms” and has no qualms about vivisecting them or tearing them apart to see how they work. If you were a sociopathic monster with medical training, and you suddenly had X-Ray Vision, it would be a horror show. Plus, the application of heat vision and super strength to someone with anatomical knowledge of dozens, if not hundreds, of species, make Xa Du much scarier than the likes of Mongul, because it’s all about the application of that ability, rather than brute strength and martial prowess. One of my personal favourite Green Lantern Corps arcs (#57-59) was when Xa Du returned after a long absence, and took apart a colony of Daxamites, and Guy Gardner. The repercussions of that story were felt for issues to come, and it ties to the greater mythology of that title that I intend to return to one day.

DC2 basically introduced me to Xa Du, and he's a great villain-- scary, like a reverse Superman, all twisted Kryptonian science, with Leopard to do the punching and kicking! Yes! All the Kryptonian science, none of the human heart. The inverse of Clark without being a Bizarro or a Zod! One of my favourite piece of pre-Crisis content is Steve Gerber and Gene Colan’s Superman: The Phantom Zone, and I was lucky enough to buy it in the individual issues when I was much younger (probably a mistake, as it was a very mature read for a Superman story) and then again recently, when DC released a trade collection of Gerber’s stories that shared the thematic threads established in that miniseries. We meet so many different Kryptonian criminals in that, and I think it really tore up what I originally thought Superman-- that he should be the literal “Last Son of Krypton”. I don’t just one! I want loads! I want them to mean something! If we can have a Zod running about, why can’t we have a Faora, why can’t we have Xa Du, or Kru, because we’re going to get to Kara and Krypto soon enough! As long as they make sense and aren’t just distaff copies of Zod, as long as they’re unique in their own way, and have impact, then why can’t we have other Kryptonians surviving the destruction of their homeworld through different means? This is going to play into one of the arcs I have planned for my eventual return to Green Lantern Corps, but I don’t want to get into too much detail, even though it’s clear that it involves more survivors of Krypton…
