Solarex On the planet Piras The ruling family is the ruling family because they are the ones who have powers. Each member has a different power. Their rule is fair but they are overthrown and each member is killed except for the eldest son who is made an example of and banished from the planet. They put him in suspended animation and send him on a one way ticket into space to forever wander the stars. Only his transport crashes intact on a primordial earth where his capsule is covered by the earth. He is unearthed millions of years later. His capsule is taken to a lab, studied and eventually he is awakened. After becoming acclimated to earth he becomes the Hero known as Solarex. He has the power to absorb light and then convert it into energy blasts. He can direct the blast from his eyes. Hands, feet and use this energy to fly. When he first started in the hero biz he had a secret identity but abandoned it. When he is Solarex his eyes are energy. He can internalize his energy and his eyes appear normal but he hasn’t done that in years. He has become more and more distant to humanity. The story I have in mind is about his journey back to become more of a participant in humanity. What leads him back to this is a story involving a 6000 year old vampire monk.

Roy, character and concept sounds awesome... I'd buy that as a comic book! Don, I'll definitely take a shot at designing one of your characters tonight. Dave, I think I like blue hair. I'll update the image Btw, my good friend and terrific artist, Carlo, committed to six pages for this project. Very cool design and intriguing synopsis. I really like the design, reminds me of Squadron Supreme's Hyperion (which is one of my favorite character designs). Very cool, Joey! That's some nice looking art on his page Take care Don

Roy, Solarex is a very cool concept. I'd like to know more about the vampire monk. It reminds me of a an alt-history thing I was developing a couple years back about 11th century marauding vampire Normans in France, Sicily, and the Levant (FYI, they were immune to crucifixes and sunlight after conversion to Christianity--- I know, I know, seems weird, but there was some internal justification).
Don, I'm loving those Strangers characters. Looking forward to seeing more. I love the twists you put on familiar ideas.
Welcome Carlo aboard from us, Joe. I really like his work.
I'm also kinda toying with picking up a concept that was developed by (and was near and dear to) Brandon Herren. His "Steampunk Lincoln" ideas were a lot of fun, and deserve to reach an audience. If I do go in that direction, I'd want to bring Chris Paugh into our enterprise, as he worked closely with Brandon on the concept, and should have some input on it seeing the light of day.

I was telling my husband about the story idea I had, and he immediately started adding on to it, so we'll be doing this project together (our first officially!). Here's our intro for "Silverstar":
Regal Meadows is a typical nursing home, with many residents needing varying levels of care. That’s why Marta Gonzalez is there: she’s a new nurse at the facility, and is finding the place to be just like others she’s worked at...with the exception of one resident. According to her charts, Diana Ellison is a 70-year-old woman with a sharp mind but a myriad of physical issues -- she can’t walk without assistance, her hands aren’t as dexterous as they used to be, she has numerous dietary restrictions -- yet it appears there’s more to her than she lets on. One of the residents with Alzheimer’s claims Diana glowed brightly during a power outage to help keep her calm. Another resident that likes to make trouble for the nurses keeps having wheelchair malfunctions whenever he acts up around Diana, to the point where the guys in Maintenance swear the metal parts are inexplicably fusing together. And then there was the time Marta was heading to her car late one night and someone tried to grab her, only for her assailant to be suddenly whisked up into the sky by an unseen force...one that dropped on the ground a house slipper that looked a lot like one of Diana’s.
Over 40 years earlier, there had been a heroine called Silverstar, a minor sensation who came and went over the course of a decade. Silverstar’s accomplishments are largely forgotten now, overshadowed by newer, flashier heroes who don’t shy away from the cameras like she did. Who was Silverstar, and what’s her connection to the frail old woman living at Regal Meadows?

The mystery of Silverstar is one I want to look into, that's for sure. A very cool, evocative set-up (I think I see where some of the inspiration might come from, Susan ). Definitely a solid fascinating hook. Joey, Volt looks great. I had no visual for how she looks (unlike the other two), so I can imagine trying to translate her to picture was probably tough. That look on her face is fantastic, what a commanding expression! Tomorrow, I'll post up Autumn Winters for review (anyone who has seen the cult classic Phantom of the Paradise will be a leg up ). Take care Don

Very cool pic, love how evocative it is even just as a rough sketch.
AUTUMN WINTERS (real name Rachel Sumner) Rachel was a gifted singer and actress trying everything possible to break into her career. During a casting call for a strange new musical, she because entangled in the machinations of a devilish music producer and his plans to steal the production away from its songwriter (and maybe gain a new soul as well). Tempted by superstardom suddenly thrust upon her, Rachel took up the stage name Autumn Winters and nearly signed her own soul away until the songwriter brought the fiend down in a fiery battle.
Emotionally and mentally traumatized by the supernatural events going on around her, Rachel ended up in an asylum for a number of years. Now recovered and ready to re-start her career, Autumn also uses her unique perspective to protect other innocents from Hell's plots. She can see through a demon's illusions and sense the supernatural in her area, using magical knowledge to expose and drive them back to their pits. Her own soul though, seems to be missing and she seeks out redemption for her mistakes.

Susan, that Silverstar concept sounds like a winner--- and Joe, that pic is adorable.
And Don, you just don't have any bad ideas! I love the idea of Autumn Winters. She sounds kinda metal, like she'd show up in ripped jeans, black nail polish, and a bad attitude.
In fact... I think a Silverstar/Autumn team-up would melt faces.

My vampire monk was named Amar. (name came to me and I later learned it was the brand name of the door leading into the local post office. It is stamped into the bottom of it, must have "usual suspected" it). The monk was researching dark magics and realized that by becoming a vampire he could give people what he thought was eternal life. So he became a vampire to do just that, when his brethren found out they walled him up in the monastery where he remained until centuries later after the monastery had been buried he crawled his way out of his makeshift crypt and into the twentieth century. Solarex winds up on his trail when he begins to investigate some disapearances. Amar is building his following. Amar becomes aware of Solorex and his powers to absorb light and heat. Amar has an ancient ritual that will transfer him into the body of Solorex. Making him an undead vampire with the power of the sun. I actually wrote this story. 200 pages or so and I have no idea where it's at. The whole story came to me as a dream where Amar was in a church about to kill a priest and says, "Your religion only promises eternal life! I give them the promise your God can't!" and the priest responded, "No! You give them eternal death!" I got another about the end of the world and American Indian Folklore.

Page 1
A rocket crashes in the Kansas countryside.
Sarah and Eben in their home. It’s dark. They hear the crash.
Eben: That was close. I better go check. Sarah: Eben, No. You can’t. Eben: I have to Sarah. Someone may need help.
Close up on tires dust kicking up. Caption: Don’t worry Sarah, I’ll be back, I promise.
Site of crash. Long shot. foreground. The tire we saw earlier is on a wagon, that is pulled by a horse. Eben is walking toward the crash site in the background. He is looking off to the side as if watching for something.
He arrives at the crash site. He is looking down in fascination.
A baby wrapped in red and yellow blankets reaches for him.
Eben suddenly looks to the side.
Eben silhouetted against the background of the nearby tree line. Something is coming.
Eben runs toward the wagon baby clutched against his body.
View from the tree line as if something is watching the wagon driving away into the distance kicking up a cloud of dust as if moving fast.
Page 2
Eben burst into the house.
Sarah rushes to him. Eben hands her the baby. Sarah: “Eben what. . .?
Sarah sees it’s a baby. Sarah: Eben, it a baby!
Eben is barricading the door. Sarah stands struck by the fact that she is holding a child in her arms. Sarah: Where did you . . . how . . . ? So many questions are flooding her mind that she is having difficulty picking one.
Eben grabs a double barrel shotgun, breaking it open and loading two shells into it. Sarah stands in the background still staring at the baby. Eben: How many shells do we have?
Sarah is lost in the baby. It’s tiny hand clutches her finger. Eben is now screaming at her. Eben: Sarah! Snap out of it! How many shells!
Sarah suddenly realizes they are in danger and jumps to action. She grabs a nearby ax with one hand while still holding the baby in the other. Sarah: 15. Eben: I hope that's enough. I don’t know how many, they followed me.
Eben looks out the window. In the distance is a line of dark silhouettes with glowing eyes. Page 3 A nasty bare rotting foot steps up onto a step leading to the front porch.
Close up on zombie face.
A small door opens in the wall just big enough for the shotgun barrel to poke through.
A blast from one barrel shatters the zombies head into a million pieces.
More zombies pile up onto the porch and congregate at the door. Another shotgun blast drops another one but there's too many for it to matter.
Inside the door starts to give way and arms start coming in around it. Eben pushes Sarah toward the rear of the house. Eben:The storm cellar! Go!
Sarah turns to run and falls to the ground. The baby and the ax fall from her hands. The door gives way and the zombies pour in. Page 4
The baby lies on the floor, a zombie hovers over it. Eben fires the shotgun but it only clicks.
The zombie falls to the ground over the baby as if it is devouring it.
Sarah grabs the ax and swings left to right taking the top of the zombies head off.
Eben picks up the baby taking the ax from Sarah. Eben: The cellar now! Sarah: But . . . Eben: I’m right behind you.
Sarah runs for the back of the house Eben swings the ax with one hand felling another zombie while holding the baby close to his body with the other.
Sarah standing in the cellar with the door almost shut her face is pressed against the sliver of the opening. The cellar is stocked. They were prepared for this eventuality.
She swings the door open as Eben comes running in. Eben: Shut the door!
Sarah shuts the door and bars it. Sarah: Eben, the baby.
They both examine the baby Eben: He’s fine. He wasn’t bitten. Sarah: It’s a miracle Eben, a miracle.
In the foreground a small brown decaying tooth falls from the babies blanket, in the background we can see the cellar door vibrating as the zombies pound on it. Page 5
12 years later.
A young boy sits on a rocky outcropping overlooking a small stream. He chucks a rock into it.
He hears something behind him and turns quickly, really quickly, brandishing a large machete. Eben comes walking out of the woods. Eben: Easy Mike, it's just me. But it could have just as easily been one of them.
Eben and Mike stand looking down the stream. Mike: Dad, we haven’t seen one in years and even that one was just shuffling along the tree line. Didn’t even see us. Eben: I realize that son. Out here were isolated, not much to attract them. But things can change in an instant.
Pull waaaayyy back. We see the outcropping and the surrounding woods. Far away from where they are a lone zombie shuffles away from them in the opposite direction. Eben: Your Mother and I have done our best to protect you. When you wander off like this it scares the hell out of us. Especially your mother. Mike: I’m not a little kid anymore Dad. Eben: I know that, even with your reflexes, you still have to be on guard all the time. One bite, one puncture is all it would take.
Sarah is in the house pacing back and forth she holds the ax in one hand. The table is set for a modest meal. SFX creeak from the area of the door.
Eben and Mike are walking back through the woods. Mike: I’m sorry Dad, I didn’t mean to worry you and Mom, I just needed to get out for a minute. Eben: How about next time you tell me and we’ll go together. Watch each others back.
Sarah runs toward the door Sarah: Mike?
Page 6
Close up on Mike's ear. Small SFX aaaaiiieeee Mike: That’s not really what . . .mom.
Eben stands alone in the woods, Mike has run off really really really fast. Leaves are kicked up in his wake.
Inside the house Sarah is on the ground a zombie is eating her. Framed in the open doorway is Mike. Mike: Mom.
In an instant Mike is on the zombie his fist exploding the zombies head. Mike screams: NOOOO!
Mike is kneeling on the ground holding his Mom in his arms. His father, Eben, stands in the doorway. Eben: Oh no.
Sarah opens her eyes they are yellow.
Sarah (now a zombie) clamps her teeth down on Mike’s arm. Mike doesn’t seem to notice.
Eben has stepped through the door. Behind him the yard is filled with zombies.

Simple but straightforward, I do like it. The harness looks great, and she's got a nice young look on her face which lines up with her attitudes pretty well. I do envision a half-mask on her (yeah, really, a secret id on a skyscraper sized person? but she's got that innocence around her lol). The kind of mask like you'd see on Mar-Vell or Johnny Quick. But this is a fun, excellent start Makes me want to work more on my Strangers. Take care Don

Sorry guys, life kicked me in the butt. Lost my job Sept 2019... everything literally stopped.
Got a new job eventually, it's been steady since. I think I have time to draw again, especially these coronavirus times where I'm just holed up at home.
Maybe Kickstarter is too much and too big.
Anyone got a script for something like a Golden/Silver/Bronze Age superhero team book? Maybe in the vein of New Teen Titans/Justice League/Avengers/X-Men that sort of thing. Maybe a webcomic platform is much more realistic.
Let me know if you're interested.
