Please take a moment and let us know what you thought of this issue! And check out that amazingly creepy cover, courtesy of Roy Flinchum. Blimey. I've got the greatest cover artists on these titles and this is just another example of that fact.

Hi there ring-bearers!
Been putting off reading this issue for a few days, but I think it's time I got to it. I'll start off with that cover. Damn, Roy. You know just how to set an eerie, off-setting mood don't you? I'm not too familiar with Black Hand's DC2 history, but the cover gives off the sense that this is something that should NOT be happening, and I mean that in a positive way. Things won't be going well for the GLs from now on, and that gets across.
And Charlie, no one gets the Lanterns like you do. This run on the emerald warrior(s) has really managed to impress me, because I've never really felt the connection and brotherhood of the Lanterns until now. They may not always get along, but the way Gardner is portrayed really shows off his loyalty to Hal and Chloe. Seeing him watch their backs so closely like this shows another side to Gardner that I haven't really seen before. Exploring this aspect of their lives really is where your strength lies.
What's going on with the Black Hand, worries me, and I like that. When he comes in, nothing good comes about for anyone. And I'm sure, if this really is the Black Hand that Guy is dealing with, then he's gonna be quite PO'ed about what happened to him. Hoping everyone makes it out of this one alive!
Keep up the good work you guys. I need the next issue by yesterday!

Black Hand is an interesting character for the DC2. When his debut arc hit the site, there was an insinuated history there, that he was a villain who had been around for a while and had faced Hal in the past. The case was, he hadn't appeared, so this inferred backstory was an interesting approach. We took a lot of 'firsts' approach to characters and villains, we saw their origins, but Black Hand appeared fully formed, a monster, capable of swapping bodies with Hal Jordan and doing what he wanted in his new form. He also had a brain tumour, as the story constantly tells you, ha. This man should be dead but he isn't or is he and he's going around performing terrible acts... So what's next for William? And what is it about his back story that's causing everyone to shake in their boots? BUT we all know Black Hand, don't we? We know him from Geoff Johns' work, so wasting time on his origin would have been wasted unless we went in a MASSIVELY different direction. You know what he's capable in the regular DCU, you know what he became, so let's keep that in mind as we read this version of Hand. He's a scary bastard and things are only going to get worse as we progress. Thanks for the compliment, Cam. I'm really pleased with the story I've been able to tell with these characters since I started on the title all those years back. Everything builds onto everything else, and the foundation established by Scott, David, John, Jay and Daniel is one I love building from. Guy was my first 'project character' for the cast, because he'd been established as an utter sonofabitch in his original appearances. Paranoid, xenophobic, irredeemably bastardy. So the first arc I wrote during my second stint on the book was about redeeming him, against the odds. Building the bridge between who we all know and love in the regular books, and the arse he was here. I'm really proud of what I ended up delivering. You're not going to punch this guy out. You're not going to make him the butt of jokes and he isn't going to have a silly haircut. He's the man, he'll always be the man, and we have some big plans for him as we move forward, as seen in Green Lantern: Brightest Day for the Ten Year Later event. I just wish Hal would pick up his ring What's going on with the Black Hand, worries me, and I like that. When he comes in, nothing good comes about for anyone. And I'm sure, if this really is the Black Hand that Guy is dealing with, then he's gonna be quite PO'ed about what happened to him. Hoping everyone makes it out of this one alive! Not everyone will make it out of Black Hand's story alive. See you next month! Roy is on the cover duties again, and we're going to see the DC2 version of Parallax in all his horrific glory. Exciting times. And way past due.

Designing Parallax…So, you’ve all seen Parallax in the regular DCU, but you’ve never seen him in the DC2. We’ve seen the effects of his presence across the Green Lantern line since the earliest issues. Scott Kruger did brilliant work building up this immense threat to the universe, and I thought it was about time—especially considering my plans for him—that we met him, on a cover, and for that task I went to Roy Flinchum, one of my MVPs, and hit him up. I thought it would be cool to share the process behind the scenes of how we went about this design. I’ll share some emails we exchanged, and hopefully give you an idea of what we discussed to get to where we ended up, with the cover to Green Lantern Corps #63 wrapping this post up. -- The following was my initial pitch to Roy:Parallax has been described previously as insectile, pale-yellow skinned, gaunt. The works. Firstly, I imagine his body to resemble the below: Blackened, burned yellow armour. Tarnished, with hints of gold peaking through. He's lived for thousands, millions of years. His armour is mocking the Guardians and their power colour. His limbs will be longer, thinner than a human person's. He's like a ghoul, a monster, something kids would be afraid of... Across his chest would be a version of the Parallax symbol, in a style similar to the cracks above: Now, his face will be the difficult bit. I imagine a horrific face. Truly fear-inducing. Beady black eyes et a little bit higher on his head than a normal person. Teeth full of razor sharp sharks teeth. Some references: Finally(!!) his RIGHT arm was severed a few months ago. It's been replaced by a monstrous energy arm, in the style of Fernus' from my favourite JLA run. It'd be bigger somewhat than his other, normal arm (not comically big) but clawed, bulky, and pure yellow energy. - Roy sent the following sketch over quite quickly: "I saw some costume from an old movie called space vampires that I want to rip off." -- Roy then sent the following, with the note: “ Quick and dirty color version. Feel free to experiment with it!” -- I thought it was great, and sent back the following tweak thanks to a hearty session spent on GIMP: -- (sorry for the odd appearance of the image, I saved it as a.GIF on no background, so the site's colour scheme is kinda showing through) -- After that, everything clicked, and Roy sent over the final version of the costume: -- And now we have the cover to Green Lantern Corps #63, coming later this month: I'm psyched for this issue to hit! Thanks big time to the ever-talented Roy Flinchum for collaborating on something so cool!
