Welcome to the letters page for the sixtieth issue of Green Lantern Corps!
Funnily enough, I just checked how many issues of this damn title I've written, and surprisingly it's also my thirtieth! Anniversary anniversary anniversary...
Alex has delivered a really zippy cover that plays well into the story, featuring a version of the team that he had a major hand in shaping on the site back in the day-- the Justice Society of America!
Please take a moment and let us know what you think of this very special issue!

December was supposed to be the month we concluded Omega Crisis, the crown jewel of the ten-year anniversary event. Obviously that didn’t happen, and obviously the ten-year anniversary hasn’t been as big or as successful as it could have been. Such is life. I think we all know that we’re past the heady, heavy traffic glory days of the DC2, which I think was about four years ago, maybe? (When did the last issue of New Outsiders post? You know that would have put butts in seats). We all know we're not what we used to be, but this playground is fun to play in, and I'll keep playing in it until it's not fun anymore. Then again, I have a finite number of stories planned for Justice League and the plan is to hit #100 at some point, so... okay, I digress. Where was I?
December was going to be the finale to a reality stomping, time bending, barn stomping epic, and in the wake of that, I wanted my two present day ongoing titles, namely Green Lantern Corps and Justice League to show the damage done during that event. So I had a meta-story planned across two titles, which I’ll go into a bit here.
Firstly, I wanted to pay homage to the DC2. That was very important. So, in Green Lantern Corps, something happens—you’ll have to read the issue to find out what, as it’s a game changer for a major character in the title—that results in the Apokolips Imperative never happening. We meet the Justice Society that rose up in the wake of what came next, and we see what happened when the end of the world doesn’t arrive as advertised. Something is missing from this world, not just the forces of Darkseid, something that makes life on Earth very difficult. But let’s meet the heroes who have stepped up in the interim.
Secondly, I wanted my two issues-- three if you count The Authority-- to tie closely into continuity while also playing with what’s come before. I’ll elaborate more when I discuss Justice League, which I handed in to Mark too late to make my December deadline. Sorry, guys! So, for Green Lantern Corps, that means a world where there… was no… Justice League. But the Justice Society were reborn, headed up by the world’s mightiest mortal, who never died during the Apokolips invasion!
Thirdly, and I'll stop after this, I wanted repercussions of reality bending adventures to be shown. If a crisis arrives, it should be felt elsewhere. For Justice League, that meant damage to time-- something I couldn't do as planned because of the lack of Omega Crisis-- and for Green Lantern Corps it was more a damage to reality. You won't be able to see that now, which is a shame, but if you read the last three issues I've put out after Justice League #50 finally posts, there will be themes present that link everything together. Bendy themes!
Anyway, the issue is here, with a great cover by Alex Vasquez (who I hope to collaborate with again in the near future), and like I said, it’s part of my “reality-bending” meta-arc for December (and a little bit of January), my own little anniversary event for the ten year celebration, and something I’m quite proud of. But then again, I’m pretty much proud of everything I put out there, or I wouldn’t post it. I’m not a monster…

Ooh, I'm excited now. I just finished dressing the cover to Green Lantern Corps: Brightest Days, the 10 Years Later special for this series. It's an absolute beaut, and I'm going to post it tonight. Gonna be a good one, folks. If you read anything of mine (HAHAHA), I'd love for it to be this upcoming ditty. Until then, have a great day!

After the events of the last four issues, our heroes are in turmoil as we enter the new year!
As we enter 2016 with Green Lantern Corps #61, Hank Henshaw and Kyle Rayner are MIA and Guy Gardner has been demoted from his role as Honour Lantern!
Meanwhile John Stewart is on Earth investigating five mysterious power rings that have surfaced in Japan, and meets an old friend from his army days!
We also have a horrific serial killer lurking in Coast City on the hunt for a fan favourite, and in the Forbidden Sectors a mysterious group are playing with forces that could bite back hard!

Ooph, just plotted Green Lantern Corps up to the seventy fifth issue, putting my planning on this book pretty much neck-and-neck with Justice League. I know loosely where I want to take the latter after #75 and I have loads more stories to go in GLC after that milestone... including a time travel arc I'm quite hyped about that lets me write Abin Sur for the first time! Somewhat interestingly, GLC is broken up into three-parters until #75, and I'm considering keeping that structure after the milestone, as it makes accessing the stories much easier. Anyway, I'm neck deep into #62 and #63 at the moment, so let me get back onto that--! To whet the ol' whistle, here's the cover to Green Lantern Corps #67, by ArtTeach, featuring a face-off that I've been psyched to write for nearly a year now...

This was a surprising step - a side issue that I really enjoyed. Awesome story with Kyle and White Lantern: I love the idea of the "immune system of cosmos," and it was fun to see Darkseid again and enjoy all these references to DC2 lore.
Fun issue!

This was a surprising step - a side issue that I really enjoyed. Awesome story with Kyle and White Lantern: I love the idea of the "immune system of cosmos," and it was fun to see Darkseid again and enjoy all these references to DC2 lore. Fun issue! Thanks, O. It was fun to take a break from all the other spinning plates I had going at the time and focus on Kyle for a bit, as I feel like he was one of the characters that got short shrift during this chunk of the run. Imagining a world without Green Lanterns, and then working back to find out why that happened when the idea occurred to me was a blast to write, and I think I could have spent more time in this alternate reality. How much damage would be done to the universe if there were no Green Lanterns? No Guardians? No multiverse as no Krona, and then looking back at DC2 continuity-- an inability to complete the Anti-Life Equation as we knew it during “ The Apokolips Imperative”. I’ve only written Darkseid a scant amount of times, and even though his ‘return’ took place during my first run on Green Lantern, that scene was written by Scott Kruger, who was helping me wrap up a story I was struggling with at the time-- and then I was the only guy, along with Scott, who remembered Darkseid wasn’t in the Source Wall anymore! He’s been running around free for years! Anyway, what is it with me and breaking the world? That’s one of the big narrative beats I always return to, and I’m not sure why. Definitely something to think about. Maybe its about finding the light in darkness, or something pretentious like that. Who knows? I can’t remember why it didn’t get the three-part treatment like the rest of the surrounding stories, but I think the standalone effect works as a very clear stamp for the story. I also enjoyed the idea of an everyman character-- as Kyle had been presented as since he was first written by Ramon and Scott in the post-IXE relaunch of Green Lantern-- receiving infinite power, and struggling to comprehend it. He always seemed to get on well with omnipotence, but if Johnny-on-the-street was given the power of a White Lantern, he’d probably think himself into oblivion…
