Wow! Major drama was going on in this issue! I mean, without spoiling, death is always a given way to incite drama, but man... I really felt in this issue. Kudos. I liked that Ha had a strong presence in this title even though he wasn't really in it until the end. Obviously he has a daughter and everything's great there, judging from the DC2 holiday story, but things between Carol and Hal seem to be strained.... which makes sense, judging from the crap that she has to gr through. Guy vs. Lobo was somewhat funny and yet epic at the same time. The two baddest, loudest, space-faring-est jackasses in the universe, duking it out! I very much liked that. I am eating crow about Mongul by the way. Wow! That storyline paid off in a big way! When I was reading this, I sort of thought it was just a copy of the whole Coast City destruction story in Green Lantern, until I sort of remembered/realized that Hal wasn't there. That was an interesting twist. Guy was.... hmmm.... and Henshaw being dead.... hmmm.... food for thought. As for the ending... well.... I'm really hoping it's a certain architect, but who knows? I gotta say though, my one complaint is that the Green Lanterns in general just seem way too powerful. I mean, being able to create a wormhole? Re-create a city? (Or at least attempt to.) That seems to be way out there. I always thought Green Lanterns made physical constructs with their willpower, not literally anything. I don't know, it makes them seem too God-Like for me. :/ God-like... Purple Ray.... hmmmm...... more food for thought. Also, I think Guy Gardner totally bootlegged some movies with his ring! Not cool! The Guardians need to totally get in his ass about that! Overall good issue with a lot going on! This was some landmark stuff. Kudos. 4 stars. -D.L. Mann

And also, because it didn't go up with the issue itself, and I'm a whore for brilliant covers: Green Lantern #24 by Jessica Byrnes. Brilliance incarnate.

Holy crap on a cracker!
That was an awesome issue to say the least! Like D.L. said at first, I was like...this is the DC2 version of Coast City's destruction and I was actually a little angry about that for a minute...but only a minute. Because it was awesome! Everything from Guy and Hank's sink up in attempt to save the rest of the city (that was awesome) to Guy's almost panic attack about not knowing how to save Hank, to Wonder Woman and Barry trying desperately to save Hank's life and failing, and then to the mystery man getting the ring as it hits 0%. Just crazy. Can't wait for the next one! Cover was simple but great too. I feel bad for Hank and it makes me sad that he's dead...
Great work yet again, Charlie. GL#25's going to be epic. I can already tell.

Wow! Major drama was going on in this issue! I mean, without spoiling, death is always a given way to incite drama, but man... I really felt in this issue. Kudos. I'm glad. This and Action Comics Annual #3 were very intimate but still quite grand (this grander than that) in their telling personal stories. I like Hank Henshaw. He's brilliant, he's smart, he's sharp, and he's got willpower coming out of his ears. He deserves to be a major player, alas... I liked that Hal had a strong presence in this title even though he wasn't really in it until the end. Obviously he has a daughter and everything's great there, judging from the DC2 holiday story, but things between Carol and Hal seem to be strained.... which makes sense, judging from the crap that she has to gr through. Hal Jordan will always have a strong presence in this title, even when he's not front and centre. Been talking about the future of Hal with Don and Dave recently (not that Dave would know it, I'm very sneaky) and I can say that this book is going to have some major shake-ups in the second year, after the coming war... Guy vs. Lobo was somewhat funny and yet epic at the same time. The two baddest, loudest, space-faring-est jackasses in the universe, duking it out! I very much liked that. Guy and Lobo have had an interesting history throughout the DC2, thanks to Scott's work with the characters and then moving forward from that. I'm not Lobo's biggest fan, but he'll be back... he has to be, right? There has to be a definitive end to Guy and his rivalry. Round Four! Bring it! The Coast City incident was something that happened in a later draft. It kind of just happened, and I had to rewrite parts to accommodate it. I don't think it's a defining part of Hal's character, but again, he wasn't here to help save the day, he wasn't here to help, so it's going to weigh on him somewhat. That, along with the coming war... changes are coming. As for the ending... well.... I'm really hoping it's a certain architect, but who knows? You'll see in Green Lantern #26 that's for sure... and that rolls straight into Green Lantern Annual #2, a piece that I've written and am really proud of. Lots of cool stuff coming, and I can't wait to see it all come to fruition. :/ Ah, well, that's something you'll be something more of. I probably shouldn't explain my thinking (it shows a weakness in my writing, but it's something that I had in mind and probably didn't convey well enough) with that point. Guy was exposed to Legion, and that tapped into parts of his mind and imagination that he didn't before. His maliciousness. His ingenuity. His craftiness. I don't think any old Green Lantern could travel through the rift between personal power battery and Central Power Battery and punch a disease in the face, you know? Something has shifted thinking in his head, and you'll be seeing that in Hal as well. They've done this before. They have the willpower to do it again. So why wouldn't they? And recreate city? No-one's recreated any city! It's a ruin, and we'll be seeing that next issue. You can think up builders, you can think up machinery, but you can't rebuild it all green and shining. It would fade with the lapse in concentration. Wormholes, I can see where you're coming from, but it's just part of an ongoing development for Guy and Hal. God-like... Purple Ray.... hmmmm...... more food for thought. As it should be. Shame it didn't work Also, I think Guy Gardner totally bootlegged some movies with his ring! Not cool! The Guardians need to totally get in his ass about that! I loved writing that scene. So flippantly Guy Gardner. Overall good issue with a lot going on! This was some landmark stuff. Kudos. Yeah, it's all moving forward for this title. Thing is, I wrote this, and the next three issues, early December-- I haven't written an issue of Green Lantern for two months! I need to get back in that saddle... especially considering... that war. Thank you for reading, DL. I'm psyched about this series, and where it's going. It's gonna be tres exciting!

Watch yo mouth! That was an awesome issue to say the least! Like D.L. said at first, I was like...this is the DC2 version of Coast City's destruction and I was actually a little angry about that for a minute...but only a minute. Because it was awesome! Glad you enjoyed it, sadist! I'm not one of those people that think heroes need a tragedy, but Mongul is a thousand year old intergalactic terrorist, isn't he? So I don't think that Earth would get away easy with his arrival. And his power-set, even with the amped up implant he had, isn't new to the DC2-- he gave Kyle and Hal a run for his money in his first appearance! Crazy. Everything from Guy and Hank's sink up in attempt to save the rest of the city (that was awesome)... It was a fun experiment in writing to not have Hal featured until the last scene. Hank and Guy were brilliant new additions to the title, and I'm glad I had a chance to make Hank shine. He's been a major player in this series for the past year, maybe two, and he deserves to be a big man in the DC2. Damn shame. And what can I say about Guy that I haven't before? Remember what you said about Jason Todd, Pat? I intend to do the same with Guy, but I don't think I'll need to go far away from his current characterisation to do so ...to Guy's almost panic attack about not knowing how to save Hank... That was rewritten thanks to Don, and it's better for it. I'm not going to say what originally happened (I blame past-Charlie for it) but it wasn't Guy. He's a man that's been dragged around the universe for nearly three years, and he's going to be on edge for a good long time. Wouldn't you be seething with anger if you once again couldn't control the world you existed within? An interesting development, I think. ...to Wonder Woman and Barry trying desperately to save Hank's life and failing... Sometimes good men die. But at least they tried, I think. And apologies to my detractors for my obligatory Justice League cameo. But it made sense this time round, and I don't think I overdid it ...and then to the mystery man getting the ring as it hits 0%. Just crazy. Yeah, that was fun. Don wasn't sure about it's placement, but I liked it as an after thought, an "after the credits" moment, you know? Who will be the next Green Lantern to join the title? And who is the voice in Guy's ring? So many mysteries. And I hope no one has forgotten the big mystery from my first issue! Can't wait for the next one! Cover was simple but great too. Jessica blew me away. I'm so psyched. I won't post it up again, I don't want to go into overkill mode I feel bad for Hank and it makes me sad that he's dead... My work is done Great work yet again, Charlie. GL#25's going to be epic. I can already tell. You should be looking forward to the Annual too... can anyone say... "Sinestro"? Hee...

This issue dialled it way past eleven! A "Day Like Any Other" my @$$!
A lot of simmering subplots are paying-off here, especially in regards to Mongul, who has come alive as a huge threat. He's scary as hell in this issue, and what he does to Coast City in revenge against Hal--- who isn't even there!--- is terrifying!
I've never really liked Lobo, always thinking him kind of a joke character--- but he was deadly serious in this issue. Which is all the better because it showed just how awesome Guy Gardner truly is. That was a vicious grudge match, and I loved how the ending was a fake-out! We've always seen Guy as a warrior, but in this issue he was a hero; dunno how anyone comes out of this not a Guy-fan...!
And then there was poor Hank Henshaw. Wow. This had a kind of inevitability about it. As I was reading it, I remember feeling the same way about the death of Karate Kid at the hands of Nemesis Kid--- the barometer by which I measure all effective comic book deaths (all due respect to the Flash). This is not to say I don't believe he couldn't come back, but just that this was a gut-punch of an event--- how many issues invested in it?
While Hal appears only once at the end, he was felt all over this issue, from Chloe's bedside to being the object of Mongul's revenge... It's not going to be pretty when he gets back.
I would be remiss if I didn't gush over that cover... Hank Henshaw, we hardly knew ya! Charlie, whatever you do, KEEP JESSICA ON GL COVERS! She is perfect!
Lastly, I just wanted to say that Charlie is doing the writing of his career thus far on this title. It seems he is cultivating a newer, breezier, more succinct (and compelling) style herein, fast-paced and breath-taking, demanding reader attention and evoking emotional reactions. Well done, sir! You have a rapt fan in this reader.
Five big stars!

This issue dialled it way past eleven! A "Day Like Any Other" my @$$! I'm glad you thought so! The title was the only one that made sense in the grand scheme of things, simply because it's not. But then again, maybe it is for a Green Lantern... questions, questions... A lot of simmering subplots are paying-off here, especially in regards to Mongul, who has come alive as a huge threat. He's scary as hell in this issue, and what he does to Coast City in revenge against Hal--- who isn't even there!--- is terrifying! I'm no small fan of Mongul. I loved what Tomasi did with him in Green Lantern Corps, and to be fair, "For The Man Who Has Everything" and "Superman: Exile" are stories that shaped my imagination, and continue to influence my writing in some degree. With how he was written by Daniel, it only made sense that Mongul was a threat on this scale. And the fact that it took Ion-- with all the power of the Guardians inside him-- to stop him the first time round... and now he's amped up? ...Uh oh. I had this image in my head that didn't make it to the final draft, wherein Guy was wearing a Lobo construct, all green and glowing, and was caked in blood to get past the DNA sensitive forcefield that Mongul put up. I think it still works, of course, but it's all subtext, ha. Guy Gardner is going to be playing a massive role in the Green Lantern titles this year and into the next, and I'm hoping that I might slowly move him into the DC2 proper, just like I intend to do with Jason Todd. He's a blast to write, and I'm glad that everyone is enjoying him so much. Hank deserved to shine, even if it was for just one last story before Mongul did him in. I was surprised that he was able to hold on for so long, to be fair, before he finally keeled over. He's been a major player since Dan's early issues, and it's been brilliant continuing to use him, even if he did... die. And that's high praise indeed, I have to say. Very kind of you. Now let's see if the aftermath is just as compelling (though we don't have Princess Projectra around to avenge him. Poor show! This is not to say I don't believe he couldn't come back, but just that this was a gut-punch of an event--- how many issues invested in it? How so? While Hal appears only once at the end, he was felt all over this issue, from Chloe's bedside to being the object of Mongul's revenge... It's not going to be pretty when he gets back. Yes! Even though we're going to be introducing a new Green Lantern in #26, and Guy's around, Hal will never be far away from this title, even if he's not gonna be Gr-- OK, nevermind. And yes, Hal and Guy will catch up with Mongul next issue. Should be exciting I would be remiss if I didn't gush over that cover... Hank Henshaw, we hardly knew ya! Charlie, whatever you do, KEEP JESSICA ON GL COVERS! She is perfect! I intend to ;D Lastly, I just wanted to say that Charlie is doing the writing of his career thus far on this title. It seems he is cultivating a newer, breezier, more succinct (and compelling) style herein, fast-paced and breath-taking, demanding reader attention and evoking emotional reactions. Well done, sir! You have a rapt fan in this reader. Crikey, I hope this isn't my literary high point. That would be depressing. Heh, seriously though, thanks for your kind words. It's always brilliant to hear from ones peers, especially when they're so forthcoming with compliments as you have been today. Oh, Dave, you spoil me so ;D Brilliant! Cheers!

how many issues invested in it? Twelve if you only count the Green Lantern title (nos. 12-24). Nineteen if you count his appearance in DC2 Showcase Vol. 2 #1, his two appearances in Green Lantern Corps: Liberation (nos. 4 & 5) and his showings in DC2 Nemesis (Chapters 1,4,5 & 7). What?! It's what I do... ;D

Well, to answer your question, nineteen issues For me though, heh, it would be from Green Lantern Corps: Liberation onwards. A lot of thought went into his role in the title, and the repercussions of his death shall be felt acutely.

WOW! WHOA! I know I'm late here but I'm glad I stayed up late to read this.
Have to agree with David that Charlie has never been better than he is on this title.
I LOVED the Guy/Lobo showdown was my favorite, but then I'm a sucker for everything Guy Gardner. I'm also loving the fact that Chloe has been enveloped into this title as a strong supporting character. Now I only hope that Hal steps up to the plate as the daddy.
Amazing cover as well. But you killed Hank?!?! Oh come on! I was just getting used to him as a Green Lantern!
Ahh well, I have a feeling that maybe Hank's story may not be over... please... ?
Excellent job everyone!

WOW! WHOA! I know I'm late here but I'm glad I stayed up late to read this. Glad to have you back onboard, Brian Have to agree with David that Charlie has never been better than he is on this title. You're both too kind. I'm in a good rhythm with this run on the title-- my previous work feels completely "fill-in" compared to this. I'm having fun, lots of massive plans coming together! I LOVED the Guy/Lobo showdown was my favorite, but then I'm a sucker for everything Guy Gardner. Guy is a favourite of mine too, and a very important part of the title. If I were tacky, I'd rename the title Green Lantern s but I don't think that would be right for now-- not for the plans I have coming in Winter. But yes, Guy is brilliant, and everyone should love him. Or else! I'm also loving the fact that Chloe has been enveloped into this title as a strong supporting character. She's a very important part of the title now, and she'll continue to be until I leave. She was a very intrinsic part of the DC2 from the get go, and I liked that. She was the best thing in Smallville, and I like to carry that over here. Glad you're enjoying her. Now I only hope that Hal steps up to the plate as the daddy. Me too, Brian. Me too... Amazing cover as well. But you killed Hank?!?! Oh come on! I was just getting used to him as a Green Lantern! He had it coming... Ahh well, I have a feeling that maybe Hank's story may not be over... please... ? But... but... he's dead Thank you, Brian
