WRITER'S INTRODUCTION:
Welcome to the final MONTHLY issue of Tales of the Green Lantern Corps. This saga has been a labor of love for me for the better part of three years. It started out as a comic book script pitch (with page layouts!) that I fool-heartedly attempted to give to DC at the 2004 Comic-Con, only to be told by Dan Didio: “Sorry kid, we’ve already got a Green Lantern”… Apparently the idea of an “Ultimate” style Green Lantern was too much to take. Lo & Behold a little over a year later we were bashed over the heads with ‘All-Star Batman’, wonderfully entertained by ‘All-Star Superman’ and hopeful on the upcoming ‘All-Star Wonder Woman‘. Needless to say, I guess I’m just not ‘All-Star’ enough, yet.
I posted the story on a Legion fan site in its original form when I met a guy that invited me to post on his fan-fic site as the official Green Lantern. That was not this site. That site is where I met David, Brandon, Chuck & eventually Ramon. That site was also going nowhere fast. The EIC is a wonderful guy, but had limited vision for the future. Vision was something David had in spades.
Welcome to the DC2. After a great deal of soul searching I decided that I needed to follow my gut and David. It meant re-writing this bitch again (the original had no Ace, Chloe or King Faraday… but it did have a certain elderly Green Lantern we all love with whom I share a name). I moaned and groaned over it, but then I had an idea… a sub-plot that would become a major theme into the IXXE. I was again, off and running. Thank you for all the words of encouragement along the way… it is for that praise (and, I guess, this never ending itch to tell stories I would like to have read) that I write the words.
This is the final monthly issue for one simple reason. As of issue #9, the Corps was no more. Only one remains. Is this the end of the Corps FOREVER? Of course not! Come on, these are comics, nothing is ‘forever’ in comics (besides, I did say monthly)!!! But this is the beginning of cool new events on the horizon. Green Lantern #1 will debut soon and with it, villains will return, new villains will debut, and a young man will soon come in contact with a mysterious object giving him powers he never thought possible! Plus… what happened to Kilowog!?!? Only Ramon & I know…

I have to say what many people already know, even if you don't Scott:
You are an All-star by every definition of the word! Your passion combined with incredible talent has given us 10 issues of a title that would hold up against anything on the comic book racks today!
As for part 2 of Crisis. I can already see a pattern here. Everyone has brought their A game to the table. If Charlie kicked this thing off then you sent it into orbit! There was so much to love about this issue. I wasn't sure how the whole separate but together style of this event would play out but I now see I am going to love every bit of it. I loved the debut of Kyle at the end but my favorite part was Hal thinking back to his father and him cleaning out the rain gutter. That was the kind of scene I could only dream of writing. That made the whole issue a classic right there my friend! All-star indeed!

So much going on in this issue...!
I think that Hal (with Jonah Hex and Dick Grayson) has turned out to be the best realized, most human character(s) on the site.
The flashback hit all the right notes, but my favorite part was when Hal stopped that tidal wave and the citizens of Coast City rallied around him (though it was pretty cool when he kicked Kalibak's ass, too) (Oh, and the Epilogue with You-Know-Who!) (And the other Epilogue with the One-We've-All-Waited-For!) (Okay, there may be too many cool scenes in here to pick just one!)
If anyone is not reading this title, now is a great place to start, because our second year is going to be the Year of the Lantern. Lots of cool stuff will be coming out of this book!

I'm glad you both enjoyed the memory of Hal's dad. I wrote it based off of a conversation with my dad (anytime I need words of wisdom or help repairing a leak in my house he's just a phone call & 10 minutes away!) but wondered if I should include it. I ran it by Charlie & he said he enjoyed it, so it stuck.
Sinestro's return... he's waiting for the Guardians to free him. He's going to be waiting for a very long time. Something else, though, is watching him and waiting until just the right moment...
Kyle Rayner's debut was a quick addition! We have big plans for Mr. Rayner... I just wanted to set the stage. ION is coming! Brought to you by the esteemed Mr. Villalobos!
Hal, if he survives the Crisis, may show up in the new Green Lantern title debuting sometime in either October or November.
As far as the Corps goes... The rebellion is about to begin, I hope you all pull up a seat and enjoy it!
And come on people! Like these issue or hate them... let us know! We want to hear from of you!
I challenge every reader on this site, lurker or otherwise, to delve into this Crisis and let us know what you think! We have written this for you for free and you don't have to pay to read it either! You can't lose! You can write as little as a word or a sentence or as much as a doctoral thesis! We read it and want to know what you think!
Are you up to the challenge?

Awesome issue, Scott! After reading this and the story's leading up to it I can honestly say that Didio will someday regret the decision that he made.
And since there was so much here that I really liked or loved, I'm going to go a different route and tell you the things I didn't like, so here it goes:
And that's about it. ;D And as always I thank you for single handedly getting me to not only take interest in Hal and the Corps, but actually make me want more. If you had been able to walk the halls of DC, I guarantee you that you would have been called the man who writes the definitive Green Lantern.

So much going on in this issue...! I think that Hal (with Jonah Hex and DICK GRAYSON) has turned out to be the best realized, most human character(s) on the site. ;D Thanks for saying so! (And for sneakily putting it on a board for a title I don't often read.) That being said, I liked the issue. A lot. The writing flowed, and you made it easy for a person like me, who hasn't followed the title, to understand what was going on. Nicely done indeed!

awesome job scott. mad props for throwing in the Green Lantern of Aeros which i think i brought up once because you failed to include him as a member of the elite. either way, awesome. Hmm... that young lad it mentions in the second epilogue... he intrigues me.
also, i want to say well done to Borize for the awesome cover, i myself was GOING to do a second one, but it didn't get done in time because i got caught up with other stuff. perhaps i will post it here later.

This was another great Crisis issue! Everything was just perfect. I never liked Hal before until I started to read TGLC. An how could I forget the return of Sinestro! That really suprised me. Once all is said and done this was perhaps the best issue of Green Lantern I have read.

Way to write awesomeness Scott! This was a well thought out, terrifically written tale! Who is the humanoid clad in armour who now is on Oa? I loved the idea of the brave powerless Green Lanterns fighting back with whatever they could find, it was an amazing visual! Sinestro! Kyle! Hal without inhibitions... The best Scott Kruger written Crisis tie in yet

Excellent issue! I must admit that I don't read this usually and I'm sorry for that. Luckily there are back issues awaiting and I will get to them. This is really a great crossover event. So far each issue has palyed an important part in the main plot. The characters have reasons for "crossing over" instead of just showing up to get you to the read the other, which this has done. I am now your humble slave and will read GL as soon as I can. And Thank you Hal for saying to Kalibak what we were all thinking! Shut The Hell UP! I loved it! Roy

I now realize it will be impossible for me to decide which crisis story I will enjoy the most.
From the first issue I have enjoyed this title and though I'm sorry to see it go, I will eagerly anticipate the new Green Lantern book. I wholeheartedly agree that you ARE the "All Star" GL writer. What does Didio know anyway?
Now to the issue itself. I'm overwhelmed by the scenes I liked. The flashback (I hope we see more of this kind of character development in the new title). Jordan Dam. The battle for OA. And I loved seeing Hal kick Kalibak's ASS.
The Jordan rules, and it will be interesting to see his new direction if he survives (if he doesn't, will the new title just be empty space?). A resounding 2 for 2 hits for the crisis thus far.

Biggest understatement in the story: "Kalibak has daddy issues." ;D Hoy crow! This whole Crisis dilly-o just keeps getting better and better! You gave us a story on 2 fronts (Oa and Earth) and each by themselves delivered. Also, I have to say that it took serious balls to go up to Didio and pitch a story to him, complete with layouts -- yes, the man will regret his shortsightedness someday, and you'll be laughing all the way to the bank -- it just goes to show that there's some folks out there that perhaps know these characters better than the "official" writers...and if David wants to lump me in with you and Dragonbat, I ain't complainin'. Note to Kyle Rayner: stay out of alleyways, they're nothing but trouble. ;D

I thought it was well-written and, like most readers it seems, I liked the mini-flashback to Hal's father, and the "daddy issues" line. I also really liked the epilogues, moreso than the main story in fact.
On the other hand (and this might just be because I've been careless enough not to read your previous issues) I had reservations with your portrayal of Hal - I wasn't sure whether the man without fear would sweat so much, or whether he'd blast a building-smashing projectile three miles in a straight line without any thought for civilians who might be in the path. I'd have also preferred it if he'd have beaten Kalibak with his brains rather than just with the brute force of his weapon.

Yes, but not for a while. There won't be the ability to duplicate rings for quite some time. So... if you see him, he may not be a Green Lantern... yet...

It's sad to see this title go under the Quarterly & mini-series area... But that's OK! Year 2 is gonna rock your green socks!
