Mightiest Mortals[/i] was one of the debut titles from the creators behind the Earth-S/Earth-5[/i] worlds on DC3[/i], and spearheaded by Don Walsh, current EiC of said site. The slew of talent that imagined up this plane of reality were originally from the Ultimate DCU[/i], but became part of the DC2Ominverse[/i] after a few short months, and I like to think that it was all thanks to this title.
This was a series that took the Shazam! mythos and spun it into the present day, with roots planted firmly in the classic stories of old, but with an eye toward making them relevant and exciting to the new readers who would come upon it.
From reading this title, I wanted to read more and more of Captain Marvel's adventures, and when I couldn't find any more, I knew that Don would provide exciting tales of old fashioned superheroics when I needed him to, and that they would inspire me to move my own writing in a direction that it hadn't been in before. That's one of the highest compliments I can think to bestow on any writer, to be honest. And, not only was it written to damn near perfection, Roy Flinchum was on cover duties, and he blew us all away month-after-month (in fact, for those of you interested in seeing all of Roy Flinchum's covers to the first six issues of this title, you can head straight to the Cover Gallery! How helpful is that?) with his unrelentingly powerful pencils. Whenever Roy did a cover, we were spoiled.
Mightiest Mortals[/i] spins on an axis that connects both Earth-S[/i] and Earth-5[/i], and as such we're introduced to the concept of a multiverse that is very much unique to itself. To get to the point, this title is fantastic, and one of the best interpretations of the Fawcett-characters (because there's more than just Captain Marvel on Earth-S[/i]!) I've read to date.
Anyway, enough from me... you know the drill by now... click the cover to go to the stories. And be sure, when you're done, to tell us what you thought of the issue in the letter column!
